Thanks received after stricken Walsall fan helped

Matchday stewards, first aiders and paramedics have been thanked for their vital assistance after Walsall supporter Ben Follows fell ill at the end of Saturday’s match at the SMH Group Stadium.

Ben’s brother David has contacted the club to offer his thanks to those who provided help after the 60-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest.

David said: “Due to the amazing people you have working there, he was immediately attended to and assessed.

“We would like to express our warmest thanks and appreciation for looking after him and caring for us while we were there.

“He eventually ended up in the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield and has made a full recovery.

“It’s fantastic to know there’s a football family you can count on when needed. Many, many thanks.”

Chief executive John Croot said: “We are delighted to hear that Ben has made a full recovery.

“Great credit goes to our matchday stewards, together with the first aiders and paramedics from St John Ambulance and East Midlands Ambulance Service for their prompt, potentially life-saving actions.

“We work closely with local agencies to ensure that the SMH Group is a safe and secure venue.”
