“The away support is just phenomenal”

Chesterfield winger Dilan Markanday spoke exclusively to 1866+ before travelling down to face Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon, and began by outlining his fitness levels and he made a return from injury in mid-January.

He said: “I’m feeling good. Obviously, just nice to be back. Thankfully, since I’ve been back, I think we’ve been on a decent run, which is good. We just want to keep it going.

“(The Gillingham win was) very important; I think just to bounce back. We’ve shown that a few times this season where we maybe get a negative result and then we’ve come back and sort of been able to win the next game.

“We just need to make sure that we back that up against Crawley now. So we’re just looking forward to that.”

On the prospect of facing Ronan Darcy, who featured 31 times for the Spireites in the first half of the season, Markanday added: “It is a very weird one, but that’s football. It’s almost normal but weird at the same time. He’ll be a good central midfielder, he’s a good player, but we need to nullify his threats and go out there and just stick to our game plan.

“So yeah, it doesn’t really change much apart from that at least we know how one of their players plays, that’s all it is.”

With over 400 Spireites expected to make the journey down to Crawley, he then commented on the impact of the support.

“It’s going to be massive,” he said. “The away support is just phenomenal. A really long journey for us and the fans and it’s going to make it even sweeter if we get the victory. That’s what we plan to do and that’s what we’re going to try and do tomorrow.”
