The Spireites returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Tranmere Rovers at the SMH Group Stadium.
Goals from Ryan Colclough, Armando Dobra and Kane Drummond secured a fantastic win and delighted the home support.
Paul Cook made two changes from Tuesday night’s defeat at MK Dons, with Ryheem Sheckleford and Colclough coming in for Darren Oldaker and Liam Jessop.
The first chance of the game fell to Tranmere. A cross from Cameron Norman was headed on by Connor Jennings, but his effort was denied by a fantastic flying save from Max Thompson.
Liam Mandeville then had an opportunity chance to break the deadlock for the Spireites. The ball somehow stayed in play following an overhit pass from Markanday, but the cutback to the edge of the box was blazed well over.
Chesterfield finally found the opener after 28 minutes. Colclough drove forward after receiving the ball from and fired home brilliantly into the bottom left corner past McGee.
Ten minutes later, the Spireites had two massive chances to extend the advantage. Mandeville was denied following an outstanding solo run from Dobra, before Markanday had his effort saved onto the post from the resulting corner.
However, the Blues did get the second goal on the 45-minute mark. A counterattack down the right flank culminated in Markanday sliding the ball across to Dobra, who calmly slotted into the net from the edge of the area to end a brilliant first half.
Thompson was called into action at the start of the second period as Tranmere searched for a way back into the game. Sam Finley drilled a shot goal bound, but the Spireites goalkeeper was able to push the ball out for a corner.
Ollie Banks was the first Chesterfield player to be booked after an hour due to a late challenge on the halfway line.
Cook opted to make a change to secure the three points. Goalscorer Colclough was replaced by James Berry.
Markanday almost got himself a deserved goal as the game reached its last 20 minutes. His effort from a tight angle hit both posts and somehow stayed out.
Dobra was brought off by Cook after a fine display, with Bailey Hobson entering the pitch.
Sheckleford then received a yellow card for halting a dangerous Tranmere attack led by Finley.
Further Chesterfield changes saw Jamie Grimes and Drummond replace Harvey Araujo and Will Grigg.
Drummond had an almost instant impact and netted a Chesterfield third after 86 minutes. The substitute calmly slotted away his first league goal from close range to put the game to bed, and this proved to be the last big chance of the match.
