Paul Cook spoke to the media ahead of the important away clash against Doncaster Rovers, starting by reflecting on the team’s recent performances.
He said: “We’re working on forming partnerships and improving our play on the field.
“We have so much quality in the squad, and it’s just about getting that chemistry right – but it will come.
“Our recent performances haven’t been up to the standards we want, but we know what we need to improve.
“I always focus on my own team rather than the opposition, and my priority is addressing what we can do to hurt the opposition.
“I have complete trust in my team, and with the talent we have, I believe we’ll start picking up more wins.
“We’re still transitioning as a team and being patient but make no mistake – we’re going to Doncaster looking for three points.”
Cook also provided an update on the fitness of the squad ahead of the game.
“Will Grigg is available for selection, which is obviously great news,” he said. “However, we need to be cautious with him and the rest of the squad.
“We won’t make any rash decisions, especially with a long and busy week ahead. Ryan Colclough and Paddy Madden are also fit and available.
“It’s crucial to manage the players properly and make sure we’re getting things right. We have so much quality, but we need to keep as many players fit as possible and manage their minutes.”
Finally, the manager praised Saturday’s opponents. “I have to say, I think Doncaster are fantastic,” he commented.
“They’ve done things the right way as a club, giving the manager and the team time to develop, and it’s paying off. They’re a great footballing side with some top, experienced players.
“They can cause problems for anyone, and I have no doubt they’ll be up there at the end of the season. I’m really looking forward to the game.”
