Danny Webb spoke exclusively to 1866+ ahead of Tuesday evening’s Vertu Trophy fixture against Crewe.
The assistant manager reflected on the weekend’s game against Crawley, saying: “It was a really emotional week. There were wonderful tributes from the supporters. I know they appreciated what Phil Kirk has done for their football club.
“At 2-0 down you’re thinking, come on lads, not on this day, let’s get something back, and they clawed something from the game.
“Points are precious in this league, and if we improve on our results from last year, we’ll certainly be up there.”
Discussing the Crewe game, he said: “We want to win the game, we’re taking our full squad. There may be one or two youngsters involved, but we want to win the game.
“It’s a good time to give players some game time that haven’t had as much, but it’s still a team that we think could win a lot of League Two games, let alone a game in the Vertu Trophy. A lot of lads that were involved Saturday will certainly be involved, if not starting.
“I know when they beat us here last year, I think they probably believed they can go on to kick on and sadly for them, they drifted away and we went the other way and kicked on, that’s just how football works.
With players returning to fitness, he added: “Devan Tanton will 100% be travelling to Crewe, and James Berry will be part of a training squad on Tuesday morning with the other lads who aren’t involved.”
