Assistant manager Danny Webb faced the media ahead of the Spireites’ return to league action against MK Dons, beginning with a reflection on the weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Exeter City: “We’re glad it wasn’t a league game because we weren’t at the races.
“At times we did some good things, but it wasn’t our day. We conceded two poor goals and sometimes it’s better to get a kick up the backside in the Cup before going into a massive game in the league knowing that we could overtake our opponents.
“There were a few little niggly injuries coming out of the game. I think some of those lads will be doubts tomorrow, but certainly not ruled-out as it stands.”
Looking towards the threat of MK Dons, Danny added: “They’re a good team. Scott Lindsey’s gone in there and rejuvenated them somewhat.
“After an iffy start they’re up in the play-offs now. They’re only a couple of points ahead of us so they’ll be fearing us just like we’re aware of them and their threats.
“We’ll have to be on our toes. We saw at Exeter that when you play against high-level opponents, they shaded the chances, ran a little bit quicker at times, were that little bit stronger in the challenge and that doesn’t happen to us much.
“In a way it’s good that we suffered defeat against League One opposition because it’s got everyone ready and on their toes for a very tough game against MK Dons.”
