Webb reflects on the match at Matlock

Spireites assistant manager Danny Webb gave his thoughts on the Spireites emphatic 9-0 win over Matlock Town in their opening pre-season fixture.

The Spireites took the lead in the 30th minute through a deflected effort from Mandeville, just outside the box.

Mandeville doubled the Spireites’ lead in the 41st minute with a powerful low-driven shot into the bottom corner.

New signing Will Grigg made it 3-0 to the Spireites with a tidy finish at the near post in the 46th minute.

Armando Dobra’s long-range effort gave the Spireites a fourth in the 51st minute.

The Spireites made it five with a goal from a trialist from inside the penalty area in the 54th minute.

Dobra got his second of the game with a brilliant header inside the box in the 56th minute.

The Spireites grabbed their second goal in the 69th minute with a powerful header from Grigg inside the box, his second goal of the game.

Ryan Colclough made it eight for the Spireites with a beautiful solo effort in the 75th minute.

Academy product Archie White was the first to react to a loose ball inside the box and headed it away for the Spireites, making it 9-0.

Webb said: “The result is credit to our ruthlessness in both boxes, I think it would be easy to expect a lot of rustiness with our finishing on the first game back.

“It’s a good start, in a couple of weeks we have Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby coming to town and that will be a completely different type of challenge, but this way a great way to start off.

“It’s the first game and hopefully this time next year we’ll be having this same fixture and we’ll be a League Two team because that is the end goal.

“Another positive about tonight is that it gradually puts the playoff final not completely to bed, but we’re back now and we have to forget about it in the summer. That’s a distant memory and it’s all about the fixture coming out tomorrow and we will see what happens.”
