Paul Cook previewed the Spireites’ Friday night’s away fixture against Newport County at Rodney Parade, live on Sky Sports+.
Speaking to 1866 Sport, he said: “I’m expecting a good game of football, they’ve had big wins down there this year. I think the last couple of results they’ve been probably a little bit disappointed with.
“When they equalised at Bradford probably ten days ago, I felt they were going to go on and win the game. So, they’d be really disappointed to concede Bradford’s second goal after only just equalising where they looked a better side.
‘Their home form is very strong and we’re under no illusions how difficult it will be tomorrow.
“They have a good style of play, they have a clear identity and for us, we’ll go down there, and we’ll do our best to win the game.”
Tom Naylor picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Notts County and will miss the Newport fixture.
Cook discussed the suspension as well as other players that will miss the game.
“Tom’s been outstanding for us; the booking comes on the back of the penalty decision. We take the suspension on our chin.
“We’re obviously disappointed to not have Tom, Devan Tanton and Chey Dunkley available for tomorrow night.
“It’ll give someone else an opportunity to come in. We’ve got a strong squad, and we still go down there with what I feel is strong enough to get a positive result.”
As always, a good Chesterfield contingent will make the journey to South Wales to support the Spireites.
Cook spoke about the support towards the club, saying: “Last week there was probably 9,000 Chesterfield fans in the stadium. Our average home attendance is high, it really is high.
“Our away support has been amazing. The support we’ve had, even at Gillingham at 12.30 on a Saturday.
“They’ve travelled so well. We all are aware, especially the players, the staff, everyone in the club, how tough times it is for people out there to find money to watch footballers and to watch their teams play.
“We can’t guarantee everything, we’re not robots and we’re not machines. We can’t guarantee everything, but we really appreciate their support.”
