Win for women’s team

A dominant performance inspired the Spireites to take all three points in a 3-1 home victory over Farsley Celtic this afternoon.

The first ten minutes saw a flurry of chances, all coming from Chesterfield play. In the 18th minute, the deadlock was broken when a great run by Lexie Butterworth saw her dribble around the keeper and slot it into the corner of the net.

However, the visitors were able to level shortly afterwards.

The Spireites continued the intensity into the second half, and their performance was rewarded. A weak goal-kick from the visitors was chested down by Butterworth, who sent a quick through ball to Lucy Graham who smashed it home to put Chesterfield back in front.

A fantastic run by Faye Delaney saw great link-up play, as she laid it off to Butterworth whose effort was saved comfortably by the keeper.

It wasn’t until the 87th minute until Chesterfield scored again. A long-range effort from O’Brien forced the keeper to parry the ball into the path of Butterworth, who slipped it to Graham. Graham’s shot was then deflected in off a defender to seal all three points for the Spireites.

Seventeen-year-old youth prospect Faye Delaney made her debut, coming off the bench in the 55th minute. The call up came as a result of her impressive performances in the youth development squad.
