Women’s team extend unbeaten run

Chesterfield FC Women made it 11 games unbeaten as they produced an emphatic 8-1 win against Stamford AFC on Sunday afternoon.

Both Elin Morin and Evie Carter netted hat-tricks, as well as goals from Jess Waplington and Millie Standen, which ensured the Spireites end 2025 as league leaders.

After title rivals Loughborough had won 7-1 earlier in the day, the Spireites needed to issue a firm response.

And they immediately started the game on the front foot.

Carter was down in a heap with less than a minute played, but the referee waved away vocal appeals for an early penalty.

It was the woodwork to the rescue for Stamford as Standen’s cross clipped the bar, and then shortly after, Laura Porritt’s volley crashed into the inside of the post.

Finally, Chesterfield took a deserved lead with 25 minutes played.

Carter was the first to react to a loose pass in the box and made no mistake with her finish.

The visitors tried to issue a response moments later, but Paige Johnson stood tall to thwart an attempted lob.

Chesterfield then grabbed their second three minutes before half-time.

Morin’s fantastic in-swinging corner kick evaded all of those in the box and nestled into the far corner.

Then Waplington got in on the act less than two minutes later.

Carter’s initial strike rebounded off the post, and with great attacking instinct, Waplington tapped home from close range.

After the break, it was more one-way traffic.

In the 52nd minute, Carter struck again to make it 4-0.

Morin showed excellent footwork and then delivery to find Carter, who finished at the second time of asking.

It was Morin involved again just after the hour mark as the young winger coolly placed her strike past the helpless goalkeeper.

Then, against the run of play, Nicole Hendrick caught Johnson off guard from distance and grabbed a goal back for Stamford in the 67thminute.

Regular service was resumed with 12 minutes to play when Standen fired a long-range effort past Maisie Thompson.

After missing out on a hat-trick last weekend, Morin was eager to grab a third today, and she did in the 82nd minute.

In a similar fashion to her second, she showed composure and placed her finish into the centre of the goal.

Only two minutes later, the game had its second hat-trick.

Carter was scythed down in the area, and she dusted herself off and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

With that, the referee called time on the Spireites’ last league fixture of 2025 with them four points clear of Loughborough in second place.

Next up is a County Cup game against Hilton Harriers on December 21.
