Chesterfield FC Women travel to Sherwood, at 2pm this afternoon, in their first fixture of 2025.
Andrea Parkinson’s side ran out 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture, at Shirebrook Academy, with Tia Mcdonagh scoring the only goal of the game on her debut.
Andrea said: “It was a good win; we’d signed Tia that week and she got the goal on her debut. It was a good tight game and hopefully we can be on the end of a good result again.”
This will be the team’s first game since December 22, which has allowed the squad plenty of time to prepare.
Andrea commented: “Training was good on Tuesday, with the injured players back and we managed to do some phases of play and set-pieces, whereas before Christmas we were lacking on what we could do in training. We’ve kind of seen it as a fresh start.”
The Spireites were scheduled to face Cardea Ladies in the cup last Sunday, but the game was unexpectedly called off as the entrance to the 3G surface was locked.
“Basically, we prepared as much as we could without training for the game and we got to the venue, which was two-and-a-half hours away, and the venue was locked so we couldn’t get access to the 3G pitch,” said Andrea.
“It’s frustrating because a lot of games have been called off for pitches not being suitable, but the playing surface was suitable for this game so it’s very very frustrating.
“The referee called the game off 45 minutes after we were supposed to kick off and then we made the long journey back.”
The game is being played at Oakfield Construction Arena, NG7 5EH.
