Young Spireite heading overseas

Academy player Jack Brassey is set to leave the club to take up an opportunity abroad.

Speaking about the move, he said: “I’ve just signed a football scholarship in the United States of America at Lubbock Christian University in Texas.

“I’m flying out in August; August 14 is when I’m getting started. I went on a tour with the company who got me that, Starbridge, and the moment I got there I just loved it.

“Everything about it, the weather, the facilities, everything. And then I just knew that I wanted to play out there.

“I just want to keep playing football regularly full-time and hopefully I’ll have a really good first season.

“I want to get some starts for the university, help them to a good first season and we’ll look on from there.”

Brassey has been with the Spireites since the age of 12 and has experienced a lot, both with the youth team and the first team.

He appeared in the FA Trophy tie at Welling United in January 2024, has played an integral part in the youth team over the last few seasons and has taken part in this season’s Central Reserve League.

“I’ve been here since about under-13s and since then I’ve been playing for the youth team, the academy. I’ve played so many games this season,” he stated.

“We played in the Reserves League and then last season it was the FA Trophy. Playing in the third round of that for the full 90 minutes was probably the highlight of my time.

“It’s so different to academy football when you’re actually playing against men. Just being around that and the hotel before for your match for preparation – it’s just totally different.”

The defender-turned-winger has praised the coaching staff at the academy for playing a part in his development.

“They helped out a lot, the training especially,” Brassey said. “Haydn Hollis since he’s come in has been really good.

“You’ve got Neil Cluxton, Justin Tellus, Lee Rostron and all of the coaches, who have been a big help.”
