Paul Cook returned to the club for a second spell in February, seven years after leaving to take charge at Portsmouth.

During his first stint with the Spireites, Cook guided the club to the League Two title and the League One play-offs.

After two years at Portsmouth, during which time they won the League Two title, Cook was named manager of Wigan Athletic.

Three years with Wigan included a League One title win. He later had a nine-month spell with Ipswich Town, which ended in December 2021.

As a player, Cook was a creative midfielder who played for various clubs including Wigan Athletic, Wolves, Coventry City and Burnley.

He began his managerial career at Southport and had stints at Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley before joining Chesterfield for the first time.
