Youth team round-up

Chesterfield’s youth team continued their preparations for the upcoming U19/U21 mini league fixtures, with seven behind closed doors friendlies in the space of just 17 days.

Their first opposition featured an Indonesian X1 side, based at Loughborough University and run by Denise Wise (who was in attendance).

In a close encounter which featured three penalties, the young Spireites edged it 4-3, with Dylan Price scoring from the spot to secure the win.

The match also had a lengthy delay, due to what looked like a serious injury to defender Harrison Beeden, but thankfully he was declared okay later in the day.

Two days later it was a game at Buxton on a gloriously hot day, against their academy side and another victory was recorded. The goals were scored by Kian Tansley and the skilful Louis Czerwak.

Next up was a 3-3 draw against South Yorkshire Boys, with a brace from Kallan Murphy and a penalty from  Tansley.

Further draws were registered against Rotherham United, who scored a last-minute equaliser, Scunthorpe United – where Czerwak scored for the second successive game – and Doncaster Rovers. Chesterfield won the penalty shot out, held at the end of the Doncaster game.

Dronfield Town U21s were thrashed 8-0, with Ollie Papworth getting a hat-trick. The pick of the goals came from Tansley and Josh Burkitt.

The match also featured a guest appearance from youth team physio and former youth team player Ben Partridge, who was able to round off the night with a goal in this convincing team performance.

Also of note, the win was managed by another former youth team player, Jordan Burrow.
