Cook praises opposition boss

Paul Cook has credited Cheltenham Town manager Michael Flynn with doing a ‘great job’.

Cheltenham have lost just twice in their last ten games and are four points behind Chesterfield going into the lunchtime kick-off.

Speaking to the media, he said: “I think Cheltenham have had a great season. Michael Flynn has done a great job, a really good job.

“At the start of the season, a lot of people would look at them probably with Accrington, Morecambe, Harrogate as the clubs that will be likely to be in the relegation shake-up.

“You know, they’ve had great wins, at times they’ve threatened to get towards the playoffs.

“They consistently get results at home and on the road. We will have a really difficult game tomorrow.”

The Blues’ comprehensive 3-0 victory over Bromley on Tuesday night saw a first win in six league games – and also saw Paddy Madden on the scoresheet.

Cook believes that it has been important to welcome back players, such as Madden, from the injury list in order to reevaluate the aim for this campaign.

“I think the points return is what it is, I think the most important thing for us has been the return to fitness for players,” Cook said.

“And also, the emergence of the new players that we’ve brought in.”

“The reality is now we’re trying our best to refocus on the targets we may achieve this season.

“We appreciate the difficulties we’ve had. Every club has a different sort of outcome of what they want to achieve in the season. For ours, we still want to be promoted.”

One player that unfortunately was substituted during Tuesday’s win was Kyle McFadzean.

The experienced defender went off with a suspected knee injury after colliding with a Bromley attacker.

Cook gave an update on McFadzean: “I think we’ve had a bit of disappointing news on Kyle McFadzean.

“We’ve got a top player a top pro and he’s going to be a big miss for us now because he was forming part of a new back four and a new defence.

“So, we’re going to have to adjust to that. Hopefully he can be back to help us still [later down the line].”
