Chesterfield cruised through to the third round of the League Cup with a comprehensive 6-1 win against Stanground Cardea on Sunday afternoon.
Jess Waplington’s double, as well as goals from Evie Carter, Laura Porritt, Sophie Marshall and Milly Wheldon, secured a comfortable win for the Spireites.
It is now six wins in a row in all competitions for Pete Jarvis’ side, and the manager was thrilled with the dominant display.
Jarvis said: “We controlled the game from start to finish; it was a good, disciplined performance.
“It was a really good opportunity to get minutes, and we are going to need to use the squad for all of the competitions this season.
“We have good depth, and really good players. We are fortunate in that respect, and they’re all competing for those places.”
After leaving it late in last week’s 2-1 win against Anstey Nomads, the Spireites looked determined to control this game from the off.
Early chances for Elin Morin and Porritt asked questions of the Stanground goalkeeper, which she answered with a string of confident saves.
The hosts had the ball in the back of the net in the eighth minute, but Amy Nowell’s celebrations were cut short as the referee blew for a foul.
It took until the 25th minute for Chesterfield to finally make the breakthrough.
The ball fell to Porritt just inside the area, and she curled an effort past Grace Smith, who could only stand and watch.
Only eight minutes later, and it was 2-0.
Morin delivered an in-swinging corner which fell to a host of blue shirts, and Waplington ran away claiming she got the all-important final touch.
Waplington was again wheeling away in celebration five minutes later, and this time there was no doubt over who scored.
Smith made a good save to deny Lucy Graham, but the ball fell to Waplington, who smashed home from close range.
Morin was inches away from making it four before half time when her strike crashed against the post.
After the break, the visitors enjoyed their brightest spell of the game and grabbed a goal back in the 50thminute.
Olivia Smith broke through and confidently finished past Brooke McCrory.
Regular service was resumed four minutes later when Marshall restored the three-goal cushion.
After clever play between Alex Harding and Carter, the forward was found in the area, and her finish squirmed under Smith.
It was complete Chesterfield dominance from here on out.
With ten minutes left to play, Wheldon scored her first of the season after tapping home Carter’s cross.
And to cap off an excellent performance, Carter got in on the action five minutes from time.
The young striker raced through one-on-one and never looked in doubt as she side-footed past the keeper to make it six.
This completed a commanding afternoon for the Spireites, who now wait to see who their third-round opponents will be.
Pete Jarvis believes his side has the quality to compete on all fronts this season.
He said: “We have three trophies up for grabs, and if we could get all three at the end of the campaign, then that would signal a really good season.
“There’s no reason why we can’t, and we will go in win every tournament.”
Up next for the Spireites is another cup game, this time in the County Cup, where they will host Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves on November 16.
