Match preview: Crewe Alexandra (a)

The Spireites are looking to keep their unbeaten run going when they make the journey to the Mornflake Stadium to take on Crewe Alexandra.

A 1-0 win over Grimsby Town was enough to take Chesterfield back into the play-offs and only a point off the automatic promotion places.

Their opponents will be looking to leapfrog them with a win and make their way into the top seven.

In the Spotlight

Emre Tezgel has enjoyed his start to life at the Mornflake Stadium after joining Crewe Alexandra on loan from Stoke City in the summer.

The forward has bagged eight goals across all competitions so far this term, with three coming in League Two.

Within that tally of eight, he has scored two hat-tricks. He scored one in the Vertu Trophy against Chesterfield, and the other one came against Grimsby Town in the league.

The gaffer’s record

Paul Cook will encounter Crewe Alexandra for the tenth time, in his managerial career, at the weekend.

He has a record of three wins, two draws and four defeats in the previous nine games.

Chesterfield have clashed with Crewe five times with Cook in the dugout – resulting in two victories, one draw and two losses.

Man in the middle

David Rock will take charge of the fixture at the Mornflake Stadium – his sixth time refereeing the Spireites.

Chesterfield has a record of two wins, two defeats and a draw in those meetings. The last fixture he officiated involving the Blues was the 2-1 win at Notts County in March.

In the 359 matches that Rock has refereed, he has shown 1,142 yellow cards, 68 red cards and awarded 87 penalties.

Gary Roberts’ thoughts

“We’re quietly pleased with how it’s going at the minute. Performance levels may have been a little bit better earlier in the season, but the points weren’t as high.

“The balance at the minute is better, we’re not playing attractively, but we’re getting results and really digging in and working hard.”
