Midfielder Tom Naylor spoke exclusively to 1866+ ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Shrewsbury.
Entering the run of games over Christmas and New Year, he said: “It’s such a short period. You cram so many games in and that’s just the way the Christmas period works. Obviously we were flying last year and you’ve seen what can happen with a run of form.
“We had a lot of injuries so we didn’t really do well last year around the Christmas period and it was a bit of a setback having been right up there in the build-up, but this year we’re in a good spot still.
“If we win on Saturday then we’ve got a lot to play for around Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year.”
Naylor then looked at Shrewsbury’s dangers. “They’ve always been a strong, organised team,” he said. “I know a couple of lads who play for them, so it’ll be nice to see them, but it’s not going to be easy going down there – it never is.
“We’re in a place at the minute where we know what we need to do. We know our jobs. It’s just about getting that confidence going into this run of fixtures.”
Going into the clash on the front foot, he added: “Lee Bonis is firing at the minute. He’s doing really well. He’s scored a few goals in the last couple of games which is massive boost for everyone.
“Obviously Mandy’s got a few of goals, I’ve have some and Fadz and Dunks have headed some in too. We’ve got players throughout the squad who will score goals, so that’s the most positive thing.”
Lastly, he touched on the continued support from the fans, saying: “They make a huge difference, especially going away from home.
“You want to take that support with you and we’ve always had that since I’ve been here. It’s my third year now and even in the National League it was probably the best away attendance they have in that league and they’ve not stopped since we won promotion.”
