The Opposition
Fact file
Name: Aldershot Town Football Club
Nicknames: The Shots
Founded: 1992
Stadium: The EBB Stadium at The Recreation Ground
Capacity: 7,100
Manager: Mark Molesley
On Aldershot Town
Aldershot Town were founded in 1992 after Aldershot were dissolved due to financial issues. The new club saw a rapid rise up the football leagues in the seasons following and promotion to the EFL was achieved in 2008. The Shots stayed in League Two for five years before suffering relegation back to the National League in 2013.
Aldershot have become a pillar of the fifth tier since, both competing towards the play-offs and staving off relegation. Last season was one not to shout about with Mark Molesley’s side finishing in 15th place. With a host of new signings, they will be looking to improve on that this campaign.
One to watch
Inih Effiong has played for plenty of clubs in non-league throughout his career which includes two spells at Boreham Wood towards the start. Following a spell in Scotland with Ross County, Effiong made his way back to the National League with Dover Athletic, spending two years at The Crabble. A move to League Two side Stevenage followed but he struggled to find playing time in the EFL as he had spells on loan at Barnet and Notts County. The forward returned to Woking for a second time in 2021, scoring his first goal of the second spell during a 3-1 win over Chesterfield at The Laithwaite Community Stadium. Effiong enjoyed the 2021/22 season as he bagged 13 National League goals. However, he opted against a new contract and joined fierce rivals Aldershot Town for the 2022/23 campaign.
Thoughts From the Opposition Manager
Speaking in their pre-match press conference, manager Mark Molesley said: “Football is about winning games, and we have to find that way as quick as we can. We’re trying to change our style and be on the ball more, attack more.
“They’ve got a great manager there who is really experienced and a great squad of players. It will certainly be a big challenge for us but these are challenges that we have to meet head on and use to bring out the best in us.”
We’ve got a lot of players that want to get started. When pre-season is done it’s almost a relief. We lost Barry [Fuller] to a shattered toe, that will be a big loss for us. Most others are fit and available.
“Every club has got their challenges and I know Chesterfield have got more than one boy missing. The boys look ready to go and we’ll see where they are at.”

Last Time We Met
The two teams last met at the Technique Stadium in January. Despite a dominant performance, the Spireites couldn’t breach the stubborn Aldershot defence with the game ending in a goal-less draw.
Team News
Alongside Manny Oyeleke and Danny Rowe, Calvin Miller and George Cooper will be unavailable after missing the game against Dorking Wanderers.
Kabongo Tshimanga was not risked in the first game of the season due to the 4G pitch but could be a part of the matchday squad against Aldershot Town.
Paul Cook will be without both Lucas Covolan after he received a red card at Meadowbank. However, Branden Horton, who was also sent-off, will be available for selection after his second yellow card was overturned on appeal.
Ross Fitzsimons will be in line to make his second debut for the club, replacing the suspended Covolan.
Paul Cook’s Thoughts
Cook said: “Aldershot are a good football club traditionally and historically have put a lot of good teams together. They will have ambitions of their own.“It will be a tough test for us on Saturday. We’ve got to make sure that our habits and our patterns of play are what we want, and we get in the correct areas where hopefully we can hurt Aldershot.”
