Assistant manager Danny Webb sat down with the media on Friday morning to preview the Spireites’ trip to Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
Firstly, Webb started by praising Josh Koroma’s performance in last weekend’s win at Salford. He said: “I think happy footballers or happy people in any sort of line of work usually leads to better outcomes. For whatever reason, Josh last couple of years hasn’t been where he wants to be.
“I’m sure there’s a few players in our squad and a few players across the league that were different clubs that would say that. We commented on this morning in the office, what a happy sort of squad and a happy vibe there seems to be at the moment.”
“Obviously, that helps after a really good win at Salford. Even after the Fleetwood result, there was a positivity and a belief that next game’s coming. Everyone seems to be happy. But everyone gets happier the more games you win.”
Webb continued by commenting on what to expect from the Millers. He explained: “Obviously they’re a club that have had a bit of a decline over recent seasons for whatever reason. A Championship club to League Two in a few seasons obviously isn’t great for them and their fan base.
“I’m sure Alex [Bruce] and his experienced staff will look to get them up the right end of the league this season. Probably different styles of play. [We’ve] watched a lot of their games, especially Gary Roberts and Jack, to highlight things that they’re very good at.
“Highlight things that we can probably get them at and I’m sure they’re doing the same with us; every club does that nowadays. So, it is important that the training that we’ve had this week has been based on what we’re going to do, what they’ll probably do, and that the lads take that on board.”
Finally, Webb praised the travelling support at Salford and expects a similar atmosphere this weekend. He added: “We’re two proper clubs. This is a proper game. It’s down the road, two big clubs and early kick-off and hopefully we can recreate the scenes we did last week at the final whistle.
“At Rotherham they give you that stand behind the goal, don’t they? So, it’ll be hell of a scene. All blue shirts, all Spireites when we come out for the kick-off.
“It’s important we back each other because I think you saw it at Salford and probably against here at Fleetwood and in the cup game away, we need each other. We needed them at Salford and they got behind us and got us over the line and we’ll certainly need them again tomorrow.”
