Departing Spireites: McKay & Montgomery

Jack McKay

Age: 24

Position: Striker

Appearances: 16

Goals: Two

McKay joined Chesterfield originally on loan from Cardiff City in 2019 and joined permanently before the start of the following season. The striker appeared sporadically over the next two seasons, and he had loan spells with Blyth Spartans and Airdrieonians in 2021, scoring twice for the latter.

Most memorable moment: The versatile forward scored his only two Spireite goals in consecutive games in December 2019. McKay found the net in a 3-0 win away at Torquay United and in the 2-2 draw at home to Solihull Moors.

James Montgomery

Age: 27

Position: Goalkeeper

Appearances: Six

Goals: N/A

Montgomery signed for the club on a short-term contract in April 2021. He was brought in as competition for Grant Smith and went on to finish the season playing regularly. He played a huge part in the end of season sprint where the Spireites managed to cement a place in the National League play-offs. In his final game for the club, he suffered a knee injury during the match, but battled through and gave his all for the shirt, subsequently playing the whole 90 minutes. Montgomery will be remembered fondly for bravely continuing in his final game for the club, despite suffering serious pain in the final stages.

Memorable moment: Montgomery played in the club’s 2-1 away victory at FC Halifax Town, where the club secured a place in the play-offs.
