The Earl of Burlington has kindly accepted an invitation to become the new President of Chesterfield Football Club.
The Earl’s decision to accept the role maintains the Cavendish family’s long association with the club. His father, the 12th Duke of Devonshire, previously held the role, as did his grandfather, the 11th Duke of Devonshire, who was President for just under half a century.
Commenting on the news, chairman Mike Goodwin said: “We are delighted that Lord Burlington has accepted the board’s invitation to take on the role of President.
“We are very proud of our association with the Cavendish family, which goes back nearly a century as the ninth Duke of Devonshire watched the Spireites in the 1930s.
“We look forward to welcoming His Lordship to the Technique Stadium in due course.”
The Earl commented: “It is with great pride that I accept this invitation. It is a tremendous honour to continue my family’s association with a club that is at the heart of the town and which does so much for the community.”
The late Barrie Hubbard was the club’s former President.
