Following the Spireites’ dramatic 2-1 win over Wrexham at the Technique Stadium, James Rowe praised his side’s resilient second/half performance.
He said: “I thought we were excellent until the penalty and then we lost our way a little bit. We slowed down to their tempo. They want stoppages, they are a big, physical side.
“I think we needed half time to refocus. I wasn’t too pleased with the last 20 minutes of the first half. We needed to come out with composure and calm ourselves down.
“On the whole, I thought we controlled the second half apart from a couple of counter-attacks from them. We deserved a goal and it’s a big win. We’ll enjoy the moment but it’s now on to Boreham Wood.
“It’s a shame everyone in that stadium couldn’t enjoy that moment with me but we are doing it for you. We’ve got to make sure that we are in the best possible position for when you are back in the stadium.”
Akwasi Asante scored twice to take his tally for Chesterfield to six goals and Rowe was impressed with the striker’s man-of-the-match performance.
Rowe said: “I’m really pleased for Akwasi to get those two goals. He was the best player on the pitch. Hold-up play, link play and running at people.
“Running off the shoulder as well. He was absolutely immense. The pass from Liam (Mandeville) for the goal was outstanding.”
New signings Adam Przybek and Alex Whittle made their full debuts in the victory. The manager was happy with how the pair settled in.
“Adam played well,” Rowe said. “I’ve tracked him for a long time and now we have two good goalkeepers in the building.
“Alex needed to come off because he blew a gasket. He hasn’t played for four weeks before coming in and another two weeks through isolation.
“Really pleased with him; great energy, got into some really good positions and put ins some good deliveries.”
