“We need to be on our game”

Midfielder Curtis Weston believes the Spireites are in for a physical battle when they welcome Maidenhead United to the Technique Stadium.

Speaking to the media, he said: “It’ll be physical and pretty direct. They’ve got some good football players as well. Their striker had a really good game in the away game, so we’re going to have to keep him pretty quiet.

“We’ll have to match them, win our individual battles and if we can play anywhere near as good as we can do, we can go and win the game.

“Of course, it will be a tough battle but if you look at all of the games in this league, for whatever reason they are all tough battles.

“We need to be on our game – on the front foot. I’m confident we can get a result from the game.”

Games at the Technique Stadium this season have regularly seen ever increasing attendances and Weston thinks that fans provide an extra boost to the players as the 12th man.

“It’s massive,” Weston stated. “They’ve been absolutely incredible home and away. They are like our 12th man and I’m sure they will stay with us.

“They will keep getting behind us. It’s important when we do have the little dips, it’s important for us as players and of course fans to get straight back behind us for the next game and keep us going.”

With the National League season winding down every game increase in importance especially in the promotion race.

Weston is looking at each game as it comes as the Spireites look to battle it out for promotion to the EFL.

He said: “It’s exciting because you want to be in and amongst the top of the table fighting for that promotion.

“There will be some nerves of course. I think that’s always good, and the boys are looking forward to the challenge.”
