Rowe on Weymouth match

Ahead of the Spireites’ home game against Weymouth on Saturday, James Rowe spoke to the media about how he thinks the game will go.

He said: “I think they are trying to do the right thing in the way that they play. You can see they have got longer-term objectives there.

“They want to establish themselves as a National League side. I think that is probably their objective.

“They’ve picked up form a little bit and they’re going to have some confidence. They’ will see the surroundings and have a right go.

“We’ve got to be ready for that and we will be. We are in good spirits for this game. We are full of confidence as well so I’m sure it will be a good game.”

Haydn Hollis has signed a one-year extension to his contract and the Spireites boss is pleased to have secured his future.

“It’s very deserved – he has been immense,” Rowe said. “I felt central of the back three with the attributes he’s got would complement that. I think he has shown that.

“I think his leadership has grown both on and off the pitch. He has conducted himself around the environment very well.

“He deserves his new contract with us, and he is settled up here. I just think it was a no-brainer for us to offer him a new deal.”

Chesterfield have a few players on the injury list at the moment with Jak McCourt, Joel Taylor and Gavin Gunning all recently missing games.

Rowe gave an update on those players as well as Jack Clarke, saying: “Jak McCourt is not ready, but Joel Taylor will be available.

“Gavin Gunning is making good progress as well. Jack Clarke is 50/50; he picked up a slight hamstring as well on Tuesday.

“[Jak] had another setback, but we are hopeful it won’t be any longer than two weeks. Good news on Gavin, he’s probably slightly than what we thought. He might come into the same time frame as Jak.

“They won’t make Eastleigh, I don’t think. But certainly, King’s Lynn the following week is a possibility.”
