Spireites beat Solihull Moors

The Spireites put an important three points on the board with an impressive 2-0 victory over Solihull Moors at the Technique Stadium. 

Goals from Joe Quigley and Bailey Clements saw the Spireites secure the win.

Quigley had the Spireites’ first chance of the game after shooting from inside the box, but his effort deflected wide for a corner.

Quigley put the Spireites into the lead in the 15th minute after heading the ball home, following a wide free-kick from Jeff King.

The Spireites almost doubled their lead when Jamie Grimes headed the ball towards goal, after a corner, but his attempt was cleared off the line.

Quigley had another chance with a diving header but got underneath the ball and sent it over the bar.

Liam Mandeville came close to putting the Spireites two goals in front with an effort inside the box, however his attempt was blocked at the last minute.

The Spireites went into half time with a 1-0 lead.

Fiacre Kelleher tried an audacious shot from the halfway line, trying to catch out Ross Fitzsimons in the Spireites goal, but Fitzsimons managed to gather the attempt.

Solihull had another chance when Andrew Dallas got onto the end of a loose ball inside the area, however, his shot flew over the bar.

The Spireites could have been two goals up after a hectic goalmouth scramble that ended with a shot from Armando Dobra.

Clements put the Spireites two goals ahead in the 73rd minute. Ryan Boot made a good save, following a shot from Dobra and Clements poked the rebound into the back of the net.

Solihull substitute Justin Donawa nearly grabbed a goal back for the visitors but was denied by a great save by Fitzsimons.

The Spireites will now look to carry this momentum into next Saturday’s FA Cup second-round fixture away to AFC Wimbledon.
