Victory for Spireites

The Spireites secured a 2-0 victory over Boreham Wood at the Technique Stadium.

Spectacular free-kicks from Jeff King and Darren Oldaker sealed all three points for the Spireites.

The Spireites’ first clear-cut opportunity came about 20 minutes into the game.

Branden Horton put in a good cross from the left-hand side, finding George Cooper, whose volley went over the bar.

Soon after, King tried his luck from range, but his effort went just over the bar.

The Spireites took the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to a King free kick. King struck the ball from around 20 yards out, the ball hit the inside of the post and went in, to give the Spireites a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Jamie Grimes came close to putting the ball into his own net after the ball bounced off his shoulder, following a cross from the left-hand side.

Armando Dobra forced a great save from Nathan Ashmore in the Boreham Wood goal, after taking a shot from inside the crowded penalty area.

The Spireites won a penalty in the 59th minute when Ashmore brought down Oldaker in the box. Ashmore saved Tshimanga’s penalty, diving to his right.

Danny Newton had a chance for Boreham Wood but after driving down the middle with the ball, his shot from the edge of the area went wide.

King came close again from a free kick, but this time his attempt went wide of a post.

The Spireites doubled their lead in the 74th minute with another free kick. This time Oldaker struck the ball from around 25 yards, straight into the top left corner.

After this impressive victory, attention will now turn to next Tuesday’s home clash with Gateshead.
