On Altrincham
Altrincham were founded in 1891 after they were established by a Sunday school – originally, they were known Rigby Memorial Club. The club have never played in the Football League despite winning the fifth tier in both 1979-80 and 1980-81 but failed in the elections.
The Robins were promoted back to the National League in 2020 after winning the National League North play-offs after beating Boston United 1-0 in the final. Since then, Phil Parkinson has built a very strong squad that have become a solid fifth tier side. The 2022/23 season is a historic one for the club as they have entered their first campaign as a professional club.

One to watch
Toby Mullarkey has been one of the focal points of the Altrincham squad this season especially as the club have moved into full-time football. The defender attracted some interest from National League and Football League clubs at the start of the season but reaffirmed his commitment at the J. Davidson Stadium. The 27-year-old has played at both centre-half and right-back this campaign. Mullarkey has played 25 times for Altrincham so far this season, scoring on four occasions – including one in the Spireites’ 2-1 victory over Alty in August. Any hope of Phil Parkinson’s side coming away with a victory will heavily rely on Mullarkey’s defensive ability.

Last Time We Met
The two sides met in late August as the Spireites edged closer to their best ever league start. Chesterfield suffered two early blows as Akwasi Asante and Armando Dobra were forced off through injury. However, Altrincham took a well-deserved lead into the break when Toby Mullarkey found the net from close-range. Paul Cook’s side came into the second half a different side and equalised a minute into the second half as Tyrone Williams nodded home from Jeff King’s free-kick. Kabongo Tshimanga turned the game on its head just a few minutes later when he diverted Williams’ header into the back of the net.

Team News
Paul Cook will be serving the last of his two-game touchline ban against Altrincham.
Manny Oyeleke has suffered a setback in his return from injury; Danny Rowe has returned to training but will not be ready for the Altrincham fixture.
Joe Quigley has recently suffered from a bug but should be available for selection against the Robins.
Ryan Colclough will be in-line to make his Chesterfield debut against his former club.
