Academy Scotland Tour – Day One

The lads began the day with a strength and conditioning session in the state-of-the-art facilities at Stirling University, working on both upper-body strength and injury prevention.

They then took to the grass, working on shape and patterns of play ahead of afternoon games against Dundee FC and Dundee United.

During the session, the trio of goalkeepers received coaching from Rangers coach Derek Gaston who still plays for Stirling Albion in the Scottish League Two.

Before the fixtures, they visited both Dundee FC’s Dens Park and Dundee United’s Tannadice Park.

In the fixture against Dundee FC, Ben Hole gave Chesterfield u18s the lead from the spot before the hosts levelled late on to secure a 1-1 draw.

Alfie Nicholls had the ball in the back of the net shortly into the second half, only for the referee to rule it out for a foul in the build up.

First-year scholars Oscar Wozniczka and Alex Burton enjoyed chances after coming on at the break, with Hole and Alex Burton also coming close.

The young Spireites were awarded a penalty with ten to play. Hole stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, finishing to the left to break the deadlock before Dundee levelled at the death.

A short journey across the city saw the U17s face Dundee United U19s at Foundation Park, overlooked by the first-team stadium.

The Blues, who made wholesale changes at half time, ultimately suffered defeat against a strong and experienced opposition.

Midway through the second half though, Jackson Oswald provided a delightful strike as he cut in from the right and curled into the top left corner.

The fixtures come thick and fast, with games lined up against Hibernian and St Mirren this afternoon.
