There is an opportunity to buy shares in Chesterfield FC and become a part-owner of a football club while helping our community!
Chesterfield Football Club (CFC 2001 Ltd) is effectively owned by the charity Chesterfield FC Community Trust.
That charity bought the football club when it was possible that the club would cease to exist. As a result of this purchase and a subsequent capitalisation of debt, the Trust has many more shares than are needed to control the club.
The Trust runs the football club not just to play at the highest level possible, but also to help make a difference in society.
The Trust works in the local community to improve the lives of the people there. The take-over of the club was financially supported by the Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council. Our charity has won regional and national awards for the work it does to deliver positive social outcomes.
The current club company, CFC 2001 Ltd, was set up when the fans took control of the club to save it two decades before the Trust became involved. Because of this fan involvement there are more than 1,500 individuals and local companies who are shareholders and so part owners of their football club.
After the debt consolidation in 2022 the Trust made its shares available for purchase by supporters of the club. For a minimum investment of £250 those supporters could become part-owners of an elite English football club.
While a financial return of those shares is unlikely, unless the club reaches the Premier League, each shareholder gets a share certificate that is embossed with the original 1921 seal.
Shareholders also are entitled to attend meetings of the club, and of course they are part-owners of the Spireites, an elite sports club recognised around the world.
The money raised by the charity will be used by the Trust to develop its football related projects.
