Chesterfield manager Paul Cook was left frustrated as his side suffered their first home league defeat of the season, losing 2-1 against Swindon Town.
Goals from Finley Munroe and John Fleck in the opening ten minutes made for an electric start to the game, but Joe Snowdon’s second-half volley secured all three points for Ian Holloway’s side.
Cook said: “Probably summed up our season so far. Promised so much, but our same Achilles heels keep coming out. And everyone’s aware of them. I’m aware of them, and the players are aware of them.
“It’s so tough because you’re stopping yourself from gaining that vital commodity of confidence and belief to go and win games.
“Our first half performance was probably a little bit Mansfield-like. We were excellent, and I really enjoyed watching them. We don’t start the second half.”
Cook spoke about how tight the top of the division is and how pivotal it is for his side to start stringing wins together.
He said: “Unfortunately for us, today probably summed up our rollercoaster of a season. We could have gone in the top three tonight with a win. We’re nine unbeaten going into the game. And it feels like a hammer-blow defeat.
“The first half was some of the best football we’ve played this season. I thought the lads were excellent, brilliant.
“They keep giving themselves this leg down in terms of conceding goals, and when I say it won’t go on, it can’t go on.”
The manager admits that after a frantic first half, Chesterfield tired in the second period and ultimately Swindon showed their quality.
He said: “Great support again, another 8,000 plus crowd, great credit to our supporters, but tough day.
“We congratulate Swindon without a shadow of a doubt, and we have to take our medicine.
“In the second half, we puffed but just couldn’t quite reach the heights of the first half; we didn’t have the energy.
“Probably, maybe should have made subs a little bit earlier, possibly, but you’re just trying to let lads feel the way into the half, so as I say, congratulations to Swindon, but really tough day for us.”
