Cup semi defeat for Chesterfield FC Women

Chesterfield FC Women went down to a 3-1 defeat against Brunsmeer on Sunday afternoon in their League Cup semi-final tie. After starting the game well, the Spireites tested the opposition defence. It didn’t take long for Brunsmeer to show the physical side to their game and they took the lead,

Carroll originally did well with the 1v1 but unfortunately the ball deflected off one of their players who set up an unmarked player on the edge of the box who went over the keeper and found the empty net.Chesterfield kept battling as much as possible but Brunsmeer’s physicality disrupted their game and they couldn’t get going.Half time came, giving the Spireites a chance to re-group and keep focused on what they are good at, but again, due to the physicality, they couldn’t get going.Following a defensive error, Brunsmeer increased their lead, which was a blow and the Spireites struggled to get into the game. This encouraged Brunsmeer to stick to their game plan and they scored a third goal.Chesterfield did get a goal back following a great free-kick from O’Brien. They ended the game on top and kept pushing but unfortunately it wasn’t their day.Afterwards manager Andrea Parkinson said: “We brush ourselves down, re-group and go into the last two league games.“The result hurt myself and all the players. With the season the players have had, they deserve success. This loss will be the biggest learning curve of the season. We will re-group at training and prepare for the next game.“I’m so proud of every player that signed for the first team. Together we’ve achieved more than we thought at the start; currently sitting top of the league and reaching the semi-final.“I’d like to say  a massive congratulations to the U16s and U18s who have reached the final of the Cup & Shield.”
