Dilan Markanday has spoken about his current enjoyment after a ‘slower’ start to his second spell as a Chesterfield player.
The winger has been in red-hot form since the defeat at Colchester United in early October – popping up with two goals and a handful of assists.
Speaking to 1866+, he said: “I feel good, I feel fit, I feel strong, I feel confident, which is important for any footballer.
“I felt like I started the season maybe a little bit slower than what I’d like to, but you know that can happen in football.
“You’ve just got to go back to the drawing board, keep working hard and then back yourself. That’s what I’ve done; I always believed in my ability.
“I think things are just falling for me a little bit more than before, which helps. I feel like I’m in a good place.”
During the 1-0 win over Grimsby Town, earlier this month, the fans started a chant to Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ including Markanday’s name.
The 24-year-old expressed his delight in hearing the song, saying: “That’s the sort of what you dream of as a kid, loads of people knowing your name. That’s just a great feeling.
“I think that when that chant sort of came out at Grimsby. I could hear it when I was playing and it was a good feeling. I’m happy that the fans are backing me.
“They’ve been backing me the whole way, to be fair. Even when I started a little bit slow, they backed me. So, I’m really grateful towards them.”
The Spireites welcome high-flying Swindon Town to the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday in a clash between promotion hopefuls.
“The spirits have been high this week, we’ve trained really hard, he said. “We know it’s going to be a tough game; they’re second in the league.
“We know it’s a game that, when we win it, we can put ourselves into a really good position in the table.
“They’re someone that is going to be up there at the end of the season. It’s going to be a really good game and I’m looking forward to it.”
