Manager previews crunch fixture against Swindon Town

Manager Paul Cook sat down with the media on Friday morning to preview the Spireites’ final fixture of the regular season against Swindon Town at The County Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The fixture is a shoot-out between the two sides of the final League Two Play-off position. Cook said: “I’m just excited, looking forward to the game. Basically, those emotions more than anything else. We’re going down today, just looking forward to the match.

“It’s a great game, against a very, very good side. So, let the winner take the spoils, as they say. Ian’s a very experienced manager. I think he’s got a couple more games than me under his belt, by the way!

“It’s probably Swindon’s biggest home attendance this year. Chesterfield are travelling in great numbers, as everybody knows. So whatever psychological edge people look for by talking is probably irrelevant in my world.”

Commenting on Swindon’s manager Ian Holloway, Cook added: “The two teams will go to the pitch tomorrow, and it’s clear and obvious what both teams need. I don’t think you’d ever see an Ian Holloway team not playing to win.

“Ian’s a really good football person. He’s got such a good wealth of experience at every level in the game. He’s so emotional and so motivational to his players, and he wears his heart on his sleeve.

Finally, Cook spoke on tomorrow’s opposition as a whole, explaining: “Swindon have had an outstanding season. They might not feel like it in this moment because we all live in a moment now in football where perception is everything.

The brutal truth is they’ve probably been considered for automatics all year. And they’ve only dropped out of the top seven now. It’s clear to everyone that they can go back in the top seven if they win tomorrow.”
