The Spireites welcome Doncaster Rovers to the SMH Group Stadium with a place in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup on the line.
Paul Cook’s side beat Stevenage on the road to get to this stage whereas Grant McCann’s team bested Crewe Alexandra.
Doncaster got the better of Chesterfield in midweek as they advanced in the Vertu Trophy.
In the Spotlight
Since joining Doncaster in the summer of 2024, Billy Sharp has been an integral part of Grant McCann’s side.
He scored 11 goals last term and helped the South Yorkshire outfit to the Sky Bet League Two title.
So far this year, he has scored six times and provided four assists in his 21 appearances.
He scored a hat-trick against Chesterfield on Tuesday in the Vertu Trophy to help his side through to the next round.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook is no stranger to coming up against Doncaster Rovers as the FA Cup fixture will mark his 11th meeting with the side.
He has five wins, one draw and four defeats against the team from the Eco-Power Stadium.
Last season, Cook guided his Spireites to two convincing wins against Doncaster – 3-0 away and 5-2 at home.
He has also tasted promotion after a win against Rovers; a 1-0 away win secured the League One title for Wigan Athletic in May 2018.
Man in the middle
Neil Hair has refereed one previous fixture including Chesterfield – the 1-0 defeat to Port Vale last season.
He was the main official for Doncaster’s FA Cup first round victory against Crewe Alexandra back in November.
In his 300 games as a referee, he has awarded 905 yellow cards, 41 red cards and 110 penalties.
Gary Roberts’ thoughts
“We’ve had some good games here. Leyton Orient came here with their tails up, we’ve beaten Portsmouth and Northampton, and we had a great game with West Brom.
“Can we make the third round again? 100%. We’ve got to believe that in our dressing room, in our office and in and around the stadium.”
