Match preview: Fleetwood Town (h)

The Spireites’ 42nd league fixture of the season sees them welcome Fleetwood Town to the SMH Group Stadium.

Chesterfield are looking to bounce back after two games without a win to close the gap to those above.

Fleetwood will be hoping to find a reaction after their 4-0 home defeat to Swindon Town last Saturday.

Head-to-head

The two sides have met each other a total of 14 times with Fleetwood having the slight edge with six wins.

Chesterfield have recorded five victories since the first meeting back in 2012.

One of those triumphs helped Paul Cook’s side to the Johnstone’s Pain Trophy final back in 2014 and another secured the League Two title just three months later.

Matty Virtue and Kian Harratt scored in the reverse fixture, on Boxing Day, to give Fleetwood a 2-0 win at Highbury Stadium.

Head coach – Pete Wild

Pete Wild replaced Charlie Adam as Fleetwood Town’s head coach in December 2024, overseeing his first win against Chesterfield on Boxing Day.

He has managed his new outfit 22 times, winning nine of those fixtures.

Wild began his managerial career at Oldham Athletic before joining FC Halifax Town and then Barrow.

The current Fleetwood boss has a record of five wins, one draw and two defeats against the Spireites.

Player-in-focus

Since signing from local rivals Blackpool back in the summer, Matty Virtue has shown his importance to this Fleetwood Town side.

The midfielder began his career in the academies of Chelsea and Liverpool before signing a professional contract with the latter.

He has also spent time at Notts County (loan), Blackpool and Lincoln City (loan).

During this campaign, Virtue has scored nine times and provided two assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
