Assistant-manager Danny Webb spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s game against Fleetwood, beginning with a reflection on Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Gillingham.
He said: “I suppose it’s an overriding feeling of disappointment, but not at the same level of disappointment as when we left Tranmere on Saturday afternoon.
“At Tranmere, we were well and truly beaten. Gillingham, we just felt if we had a slightly better first half, we would have won the game. Ultimately, we were 1-0 down against a very good team and came back to get a point.
“That play-off dream is still alive, although quite faint, and it’s still about us finishing the season with some positivity and I think for large parts of the game the other night we showed that.”
Looking ahead to Fleetwood, he added: “Good players, good team. They’ve scored a load, they’ve conceded a load in recent weeks but they’re a good team and they probably won’t get in the play-offs, I wouldn’t have thought.
“I didn’t think Tuesday was a must-win – it was a must not lose after the Tranmere result, I don’t want to be quoted on saying it’s a must-win, but I think it’s very important we do win, let’s put it that way.”
Speaking about Kyle McFadzean’s return and the defensive options, Danny said: “He’s been out for a while, Jamie Grimes then came on and was excellent and Ash Palmer was excellent throughout.
“With Harvey Araujo back in the frame now, we’ve got four really good centre-halves to choose from tomorrow and Kyle is fine and available for tomorrow.
“Jack Sparkes is back on the grass doing a bit. He might make the last game or two, maybe.
“It was great to see Tyrone Williams at the game the other night. Really pleased for him to be back, walking, looking relatively fit.”
