Match preview: Harrogate Town (h)

The Spireites welcome to Harrogate Town to the SMH Group Stadium for the first of back-to-back home games.

A James Berry winner gave Chesterfield a very important victory last weekend against Bristol Rovers.

In Harrogate’s last fixture, they secured a first league win in 21 attempts – a 2-1 triumph over Cambridge United.

In the Spotlight

In what has been a difficult season so far for Harrogate Town, Jack Muldoon has been one of the club’s shining lights.

The striker has scored seven times and assisted three times in his 28 appearances.

Muldoon joined the Sulphurites in the summer of 2018 and has netted 84 times in 345 games for the North Yorkshire outfit.

The gaffer’s record

As a manager, Paul Cook came up against Harrogate Town for the first time last season.

In the three meetings, he has a record of one win, one draw and on defeat – with three goals scored and three goals conceded.

The Spireites failed to beat Harrogate last season but came away from North Yorkshire with a 2-1 win back in August.

Man in the middle

Will Finnie will be the man in the middle for the third time in a match involving Chesterfield.

The Blues have won once, a 1-0 win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup, and drawn once, 2-2 against Solihull Moors, in those two fixtures.

In the 279 games he has taken charge of, he has handed out 818 yellow cards, 40 red cards and awarded 61 penalties.

Paul Cook’s thoughts

“I’ve seen quite a bit of Harrogate lately and they’ve been in the ascendancy in most games. They’re absolutely scrapping and fighting for everything.

“We’re under no illusions how difficult tomorrow’s game’s going to be, but we’ve got to make sure we turn up and give the best version of Chesterfield Football Club.”
