Chesterfield finish the festive period with a lunchtime trip to Stadium MK to face fellow promotion hopefuls MK Dons
Paul Cook’s side came away from their New Year’s Day fixture with a 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic.
MK looked like they would also be heading for a point, but Jack Payne’s added-time penalty gave Colchester United the victory.
In the Spotlight
Callum Paterson has played a really big part in MK Dons’ season thus far as he has provided several goals and assists.
His seven goals land him second on the club’s goalscoring charts, while his seven assists have him top of that list.
Primarily playing as a forward, Paterson can also operate on the wing or also help out in defence from time to time.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook has a decent record against MK Dons, recording five victories, three draws and three defeats.
Those wins came in successive fixtures against the Dons, winning four of them at Stadium MK.
His only defeat on the road against today’s opponents came last season when the Spireites slipped to a 3-0 defeat in December 2024.
Man in the middle
Andrew Miller will take charge of his 15th fixture involving Chesterfield on Sunday.
The previous 14 games came in the National League, resulting in six wins, four draws and five defeats.
The official recently made his EFL debut in November, refereeing the Salford City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 game in the Vertu Trophy
Gary Roberts’ thoughts
“I think they have some of the better players in the league, a really experienced coach, so it probably is the toughest, but the best to go to as well.
“We’ve both got a similar target; to get out of this division. If you’re not up for an MK Dons game, there’s something wrong. The adrenaline will get going, the blood will be flowing.”
