The Spireites start 2026 with a trip to Boundary Park to take on Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League Two action.
Chesterfield will be looking to bounce back after defeat to Cambridge United on Monday night.
Oldham are on a four-game unbeaten run but sit seven points off the play-off places.
In the Spotlight
Mathew Hudson has enjoyed his first season in the EFL as a number one goalkeeper, having previously played for Preston North End and Bury.
The shot-stopper has earned ten clean sheets in League Two this term – the most in the division.
Last season, Hudson played 38 league games as Oldham won the National League play-offs and returned to the EFL.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook has an impressive record against Oldham Athletic as a manager in his 11 games against the Latics.
He has won five, drawn five and lost once whilst manager of Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town.
The Blues have, however, failed to win in their last three against Oldham – the most recent being a 2-2 draw at Boundary Park in March 2024.
Man in the middle
Sam Allison, who has refereed in the Premier League, will take charge of the game at Boundary Park.
He has officiated two previous fixtures including the Spireites, both back in the 2018/19 National League season.
In his career, he has handed out 1,111 yellow card, 41 red cards and awarded 79 penalties in his 299 games.
Gary Roberts’ thoughts
“They are a team who have conceded the least goals in the league now. So, I don’t imagine there will be a whole host of goals.
“We’ll have a plan and we’ll go to Oldham because we know we’re going to take good support, they’ll have good support. I can imagine it to be a lively game.”
