The Spireites will be looking to get back-to-back wins this evening when they make the long trip to Southend United, in what looks like a huge National League clash for both sides.

Paul Cook could look to go with the same side that beat Gateshead just a few days ago, but with new signing Andrew Dallas fit and ready to play – it’s a big call for the gaffer to make.

On Southend

The club was founded back in 1906 and have spent a large proportion of their history in and around the English Football League. They are known as “The Shrimpers”, a reference to the area’s maritime industry included as one of the quarters on the club badge.

The club is owned by property developer Ron Martin. The club is based at Roots Hall Stadium in Prittlewell, with plans to move to a new stadium at some point in the near future. Southend have a long-standing rivalry with nearby club Colchester United, with whom they contest the Essex derby.

The Shrimpers dropped out of the Football League in 2022, for the first time in 101 years. The club will now be looking to bounce back and gain promotion straight back to the fourth tier. They have recently hit some good form and find themselves in the play-offs, sitting in 7th place.

One to watch

Callum Powell is a 26-year-old winger with an eye for goal. The English-born man has scored two goals in seven appearances this season. His previous clubs include Buxton, Kettering Town and Wrexham. He has scored eight goals in 28 appearance so far in this campaign.
