Paul Cook spoke to the media ahead of the fixture against Tranmere Rovers, as the Spireites look to extended their unbeaten run to seven games.
Reflecting on Tuesday night’s win over Carlisle United, he said: “It was a great win, obviously a little nervy towards the end.
“I was a bit disappointed with the last ten minutes where we dropped deeper, but we were never in trouble. Jamie (Grimes) made a mistake, which can happen.
“It would have been nice to press on for more goals, but the changes on the night probably didn’t give us the impetus that we’d hoped for; it was more a mindset of keeping what we’d got.
“You have to respect the opposition and our players as well. Winning any game of football is tough at any level because there are no secrets in the game anymore. We’ll line-up at Tranmere and they’ll know what we’re trying to do, and we’ll know what they’re trying to do!”
Providing information on the Chesterfield squad, the manager added: “We’ll have Kyle McFadzean in the squad against Tranmere, and on Tuesday night we could have Harvey Araujo back in, which is great news for us.
“We’ve been operating with just three defenders really with no substitutes to come on in those positions, so there are bodies coming back in.
“I’ve got to manage Will Grigg and John Fleck with the three game weeks and looking ahead to Gillingham on Tuesday, so it’s a really big team selection.”
Looking ahead to the trip to Tranmere, he said: “We’re going into a real hostile ground, it’s a really good place to play football (Prenton Park). When the Tranmere fans get behind the team, it can be a really vociferous stadium.
“They can become a formidable challenge. I was at their game on Friday against Cheltenham and I’ve always watched them from afar.
“I want them to do well and we’re going into a really difficult game. I guarantee that Tranmere will be bang up for the match.
“Andy Crosby has done a really good job, he’s obviously aware of Nigel Adkins’ staff and they’re aware of the season and the highs and lows that they’ve had.
“The players look like they’ve responded in a good, positive way. Certainly when I watched them, they were the better team and they deserved to win.
“They had a good structure, square pegs in square holes, they had threats on the pitch and they looked a good side.”
