“We can’t afford to take our foot off the gas”

Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke with the media ahead of Saturday’s National League trip to Hartlepool United.

He began by commenting on captain Jamie Grimes’ new contract, saying: “We’re buzzing for him. He deserves it so much; it was absolutely deserved.

“The lad works so hard on and off the pitch to get it right and to help this football club succeed.

“He’s a fantastic player but more importantly a fantastic person and there is no one better to wear the armband; he’s taken on the role immensely.

“You need lots of leaders to win a league and Jamie is certainly one of the big ones in this squad.

“He carries himself excellently and he’s a proper professional. He deserves the new contract and it’s great for himself and the club to secure his future.”

Danny also reflected on the FA Trophy win. “It was fantastic to see so many young lads play so well,” he said.

“The game was useful to get minutes in legs for some lads that have been out for whatever reason, but it was also great to see the young lads shine through.

“We got through, no injuries and played well; it was a successful day.”

Looking ahead to the game against Hartlepool, Danny said: “We’re ready to go and looking forward to the game.

“They’re a top side, dangerous in various areas of the pitch so it’s not going to be easy.

“It’s always a tough place to go and without doubt we’ll have to be on it to get anything from the game. We’ll focus on ourselves, as always.

“We’re in a great position in the league table but we’ve won nothing yet; we have to stay on the ball and keep pushing. We can’t afford to take our foot off the gas.”
