Paul Cook spoke to 1866+ ahead of the Spireites’ Sky Bet League Two clash with Tranmere Rovers tomorrow afternoon.
Reflecting on Tuesday’s defeat to MK Dons, he said: “Tuesday was a tough night, there’s no bones about it. Everything that could go wrong in the game went wrong and that’s football, if you feel sorry for yourself you can guarantee it’ll get worse.
“The only way to come out of any difficult moment is through the actions of the players and the coaching staff. We’re in a little difficult moment at the minute, albeit three points off the play-offs.
“The league is so tough this year. Port Vale looked like they might run away with it, then all of a sudden they’ve had a couple of draws which is dead normal.”
Cook then discussed the challenges Tranmere would present, saying: “There are very few games that won’t be decided by fine margins and tomorrow will be no different. Nigel Adkins isn’t just an experienced manager, he’s a very good manager with a very strong CV of being successful and winning things and winning games.
“We need our supporters now and they’re clearly there for us, which is a given. Tomorrow will be a difficult game; Tranmere are a very well organised side. They’ve got a clear identity of how they play and have players in the team who can hurt you.
“Tomorrow we’ll have difficult moments in the game, without a shadow of a doubt, but we must concentrate on the moments that can win us the game.”
