Webb expects reaction from players

Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke exclusively to 1866+ ahead of Tuesday evening’s fixture against Gillingham.
He began by saying: “When you’ve got a game so soon, you haven’t got time to have too much self-pity and regret about what could have been. You have to look forward because you haven’t got time now to think about Tranmere, it’s done.
“We have to look forward to Gillingham, a really tough game. When you do go and not just lose, but lose heavily, which doesn’t happen (often) and hasn’t happened to us much, certainly over the last few seasons, a lot of the old clichés come out.
“A lot of them ring true. A lot of them are just words and it’s actions that speak louder than words. Knowing this group of players like I do, whoever plays I’m sure will show all our supporters one hell of a reaction.”
Speaking about Gillingham, he added: “You’ve got no choice but to look forward because we’ve still got something to play for, we know that we’ve got a really tough team coming into town that aren’t mathematically safe, although I think they will be alright.
“They’re unbeaten since Gareth Ainsworth has taken over there so we’ve got to be up for a fight, a challenge and we need to play our football because usually under the lights here at home we’re good and we’ve been good for a long time now.
“What we can’t let happen is the setback at Tranmere turn into the start of something that becomes a bad run once more.
“Gillingham have had a good set of players all season. It didn’t work out for Mark Bonner or John Coleman and I’m sure Gareth Ainsworth will hope he’s the man to take them forward next season and get them up the top of the league.
“For whatever reason this season hasn’t worked out, they haven’t found their rhythm and we’ve got to make sure they certainly don’t start finding it against us.”
