“We’re expecting a good battle”

Spireites winger Dylan Duffy spoke exclusively to 1866+ ahead of the trip to face Bristol Rovers in Sky Bet League Two, discussing the fixture and how he has found his first year with the club.

Firstly, he reflected on the four points gained from the Salford and Walsall matches, saying: “It feels like an opportunity missed. We were in good form after Tuesday’s result, but giving up a two-goal lead to only take a point away from the (Walsall) game; it feels like we’ve lost the game.”

On his first year as a Chesterfield player, the 23-year-old added: “I’ve loved it since I came last January. Last season, we had that really good run to get into the play-offs. We fell short, but it was a great experience.

“I’ve really enjoyed this season, obviously I had a few setbacks with injuries at the start, but the plan now is to just kick on and if we go on a run like last year hopefully we can have a successful season.”

He then discussed the dressing room environment after a few changes during the January transfer window.

“It’s a good changing room,” he said. “The lads are very welcoming. If you asked all the new lads, they’d say they’ve all settled in quite quickly.

“We’ve signed some really good players in January and I think we have a really good squad, so we have a big chance of doing something really good come the end of the season.”

Talking about preparations for Bristol Rovers, he added: “We’ve had a good few days of training so far this week. They might be struggling results-wise, but I think they’re a tough team to play. Even when they came here, they gave us a good game. We’re expecting a good battle Saturday.”

With a few hundred fans expected to travel down to the South West, Duffy said: “It’s brilliant. I think the Salford game is the biggest example. I know especially in the second half we were playing into the fans, but it felt like our supporters were a lot louder than theirs.

“Newport was also a long trip and fair play to all of them that came. It gives us a serious boost and hopefully we can send them home happy on Saturday.”
