The youth team were beaten 7-4 by Aylestone Park in round one of the FA Youth Cup, despite a standout performance from Ashton Stringer who scored all four goals for Chesterfield.
Stringer opened the scoring early on, but the visitors scored three in quick succession to give them a 3-1 lead, before Stringer added another before the break.
The young Spireites started the second half brightly and were 4-3 up around the hour-mark after Stringer twice got the better of the Aylestone keeper to secure his hat-trick and fourth of the game.
The game was turned on its head midway through the second half when substitute Josh Hague was shown a straight red card for a stamp.
Aylestone equalised in the last ten minutes, and ran away with the game in extra time, capitalising on their extra man and scoring three before the full-time whistle.
