Three players within the Spireites’ youth ranks have recently been away on international duty representing their respective nations at different levels.
Firstly, U18 player Jahiem Thompson represented the Anguillan senior team in a 2-1 win over Bahamas and a 4-0 defeat to the Cayman Islands.
Discussing the games, Thompson said: “The game against Barbados was quite direct and we should probably have won by more. We had some key players missing for the match against the Cayman Islands, which made it difficult.
“I felt like I adapted quickly to playing in the senior squad, you have to think quicker and be physically stronger, and I found it great.
“I’ve been born and raised in Anguilla, so it’s a fantastic feeling to say that you’re representing everyone on that island, especially at the age of 18.”
Both Mohssen Mohamed and Hisham Awadh, who play primarily for the development sides as schoolboys within the academy system, both represented the Yemen national team at U23 level for a friendly game against Egyptian side Cascada, which they won 3-0.
Speaking about the training camp, Mohamed said: “It was different; I was playing in different positions (than what I’m used to). It was my first national team call-up, so I couldn’t complain. I was just so happy to represent my country.
“It was a really great experience in a different style of play; I enjoyed it. I’ve been working a lot to get to this moment, and the coaches at Chesterfield have really helped me.”
