The Spireites have bolstered their attacking options today after capturing the signing of Paddy Madden.
The 34-year-old started off his career in Ireland, where he was born, at Bohemians. He made 53 appearances from 2008 to 2011 for the Irish club, scoring 14 goals.
He first made the switch to England when he signed for Carlisle United in 2011. Madden only made a fairly small number of appearances for the Cumberland club over a two-year span – scoring two goals in 34 appearances.
After a loan and then permanent transfer to Yeovil Town, he made the switch up north, signing for Scunthorpe United in 2014 for an undisclosed fee. He had success with the club as they gained promotion to League One. Over the four years he spent at the club, Madden scored over 60 goals in 167 appearances and was the club’s most prolific goalscorer two of those seasons.
Fleetwood was his next destination, where he went on to spend three years with the Cod Army. It was another successful spell in his career, as he scored 53 goals in 149 appearances. At the time of his departure, Madden was the all-time leading EFL goal scorer for Fleetwood.
His most recent club was Stockport County, who he signed for in 2021 for an undisclosed fee. Madden signed a three-year deal for the club and in his first year he helped them secure the National League title. He scored 25 goals that season, significantly contributing to the promotion success.
Over the next two seasons, Madden scored 30+ goals for the Hatters, securing the League Two title with Stockport in his last campaign there. At the end of the 2023/24 season, it was announced that Madden would leave the club following the expiry of his contract.
Now a Chesterfield player, Madden expressed his delight at signing for the club, saying: “It’s a fantastic club to sign for with a brilliant manager at the helm. I’m so happy to be here.
“I know what it takes to get out of this league and I’m so excited to be here.
“Pre-season will come around quickly and I’ll be ready for it; I can’t wait to meet all the lads and get going.
“I’m so excited to see what we can achieve; this club deserves to be back in the EFL and who knows how far it can go.”
